VANCOUVER – Renowned Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan has cancelled her upcoming “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy” tour after discovering that one of the performances was scheduled to be in the city where she spent her childhood.
“I just feel terrible having to disappoint my legions of fans, but this was a decision I had to make under the advisement of medical professionals” the “Building a Mystery” singer explained. “My doctors raised the alarm when they detected an anomalous tour date in area of the Scotiabank Centre. For the good of my health I had to stop the situation from progressing”.
It wasn’t the first such brush-with-Halifax the multi-Grammy Award winning vocalist, has had to endure. Her pioneering Lilith Fair music festival which included stops in multiple Canadian cities, never included Canada’s Ocean Playground, due to Ms. McLachlan’s concern with Nova Scotia’s apparent lack of wide open spaces, and her fear of reliving past horrors.
“I battled Halifax for many years, and finally managed to overcome it in my late teens”, she said. “Frankly, I didn’t want to risk experiencing something like that again. Maybe if it went as far east as Moncton we could’ve salvaged the junket, but once you cross the Isthmus there’s no going back”.
“It also would’ve had the added bonus of prompting Monctonians to once again to mock Haligonians because they get all the best concerts, which would’ve made for a nice little middle-finger waving You-all-didn’t-know-I-existed-until-I-got-rich-and-now-act-like-I-owe-you-something sort of moment, but those are the breaks”.
In a related story, Ms. McLachlan is currently petitioning Canadian parliament to legally recognise Vancouver as her place of birth.
