CHARLOTTETOWN – PEI Finance Minister Jill Burridge has proudly proclaimed the province’s upcoming budget plans to be “Made In Nova Scotia”.
Speaking with reporters gathered outside the legislature, Burridge was enthusiastic. “When Islanders elected this government, we promised that any legislation we passed would be tailored to needs of the people of Prince Edward Island, and, with that in mind, we’ll be doing exactly what Nova Scotia did!”.
Premier Rob Lanz echoed his minister’s zeal. “It’s often said that travelling to PEI is like travelling back in time, and we’re trying to live up to that standard by copying everything Tim Houston did a few weeks ago!” he exclaimed. “With that in mind, we made a point to drive up the province’s debt by promising to spend big on healthcare, just like they did, and now we’re using that deficit as an excuse to make sweeping cuts, just like they did!”.
According to Burridge, the just like their Bluenose counterparts, the government also intends to propose slashing far more programs than they actually want so that “A few weeks from now, the Premier will promise to roll back some of the cuts to convince everyone that we ‘listened’ to their concerns!”.
Asked when exactly the specifics of the deficit-paring measures will be released, Ms. Burridge noted “probably after Rob travels to Alberta to ‘strengthen ties between our provinces'”.
