Chender criticises Houston for going to Wolfville

Date:

HALIFAX – After an ugly scene in which Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston’s vehicle was damaged by angry protestors, Opposition leader Claudia Chender is criticising the PC incumbent’s decision to travel to Wolfville in the first place.

“This was clearly a troubling incident, and I’m certainly glad to hear that Mr. Houston was unharmed. No politician in this province should ever have to worry about their safety,” said the member from Dartmouth South. “But I think it’s pretty apparent that none of this would have happened if he had just stayed in Halifax like the rest of us.”

Ms. Chender continued, “Instead of travelling to rural communities just to upset residents with talk of austerity and blowing up their neighbourhoods with fracking, I intend to reach those same voters by hanging out in Province House and assuring them that I wouldn’t do the same. I think. Actually, I’m not sure what our plan is.”

Asked if this might be a good opportunity for her party to pounce on public discontent and raise its profile in areas where it enjoys less support, Chender was non-commital. “Honestly, I think it’s easier to just let Tim piss everyone off and hope for the best.”
