HALIFAX – The Nova Scotian capital’s search for a new mayor has come to an end with the election of that guy from the thing.
According to CBC elections analyst Adam Durling, the race was tighter than expected. “Projections had the dude from Reddit coming in a distant second,” said Durling, “but he and what’s-her-name certainly made a much stronger run than anyone anticipated”.
With the results confirmed, many voters, regardless of their preferred candidate, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. Shawn Thomas of Bedford noted that “I actually wanted ‘Oh right, him’ to take it, or maybe ‘That other guy’, but I’m not disappointed in the result”. He continued “I’m just glad it wasn’t the crazy guy. Or was it? Which one was the crazy guy, again?”
Jared Tran of Spryfield, however expressed lament that he didn’t have a chance to get to know all of the candidates. “I voted early, but then i found out that the cartoon guy endorsed the-guy-with-the-shirt and, when I read his platform, he actually seemed pretty good, but, like I said, I had already voted for someone else. I think. I actually don’t remember who I voted for”.
Some voters found themselves at a loss as to which candidate to choose, and opted for more unconventional methods. Dartmouth’s Jassi Dutt explained “I was torn between the guy who wouldn’t be able to do anything and the guy who wouldn’t bother to do anything, so I just scribbled ‘Naheed Nenshi’ on my ballot”.
